Crazy morning!

Today was kind of interesting. This morning after I took Morgan to preschool I had to run some errands and on my way home I got a call from Jason. There is this sweet lady he works with that we have sort of "adopted". Jeanne is older and in poor health. Last winter she spent 6 weeks in the hospital with blood clots and gout. She never married (she was once a nun) and has no living family members. Her work friends are about all she has. Jason has helped her quite a bit around her house with maintenance and things. She's always so grateful!
Well, I guess she hadn't shown up for work this morning and they had tried and tried to call her. The Chief decided to go to her house and she didn't answer the door. She (Chief Plotner) then got worried when she knocked on the windows and doors in the back of the house, too, with no answer. Her car was in the driveway and Tanna (Jeanne's rottweiler mix dog) was looking out the front window and barking. Jeanne always takes him to doggy-daycare when she's not home. The Chief called the police and that's about when I got there, too. I didn't know if she'd answer the door if she didn't recognize the car and I was concerned that if something was wrong, Tanna wouldn't be crazy about all the strangers and I'd need to take him home with me. (he's a good dog, just very protective) Well, after about an hour with the police talking with neighbors about the last time they'd seen her (none of them really know her) and the officers climbing ladders and knocking on all the windows and doors, they called the Fire dept. to come help with the situation. We had a fire engine, ambulance, 3 police cars and 1 fire marshall truck all out their. After all the red tape of permission from their superiors, they finally busted through the front door. Tanna came out to me and I held him by his collar while the officers and EMT's went in to assess the situation. They found Jeanne coming out of the bathroom...without her hearing aid in! She hadn't heard a single thing!!! She was sleeping and said that Tanna had just woken her up but she hadn't put in her hearing aid in yet!!! Boy was she startled to see everyone!!!! Chief Plotner and I were SO relieved to see her, as you can imagine what was going through our minds!!! It turns out, she HAD called 4 people at work and had left messages that she wasn't going to be in because she wasn't feeling well. Unfortunately, NONE of those people were in today except 1 and he hadn't checked his voicemail all morning. (idiot)
SOOOO...needless to say, she has now given us a key to her house and will have one on hand at work, too. Jason had to go over tonight to fix the door frame so that she can be secure tonight, but it's going to take a professional to really fix the damage. I've talked with Jeanne several times this afternoon and she says that she just finds herself bursting out laughing at the situation when she thinks about it! She is such a sweet person! She says that at least she knows she's LOVED!! She definitely is!!!
What a crazy day!

EVERY PERSON IS IMPORTANT! One of my favorite C.S.Lewis quotes, "It may be possible for each to think too much of his own potetial glory hereafter; it is hardly possible for him to think too often or too deeply about that of his neighbour. The load, or weight, or burden of my neighbors's glory should be laid on my back, a load so heavy that only humility can carry it, and the backs of the proud will be broken. It is a serious thing to live in a society of possible Gods and Goddesses, to remember that the dullest and most uninteresting person you can talk to may one day be a creature which, if you say it now, our would stronglly tempted to worship.
It is in the light of these overwhelming possibilties, it is with the awe and the circumspection proper to them, that we should conduct all our dealings with one another, all friendships, all loves, all play, all politics. There are no ORDINARY PEOPLE. You have never talked to a mere mortal." ("The weight of glory". P. 18)

Thank you Taralee and Jason for taking care of Jeanne. She is such a nice person and I am glad she has the two of you to love her and watch out for her. You guys really make a "mamma" proud!
